# Third ICE Detention Death This Month – Person Dies at Otay Mesa in San Diego

A person died Saturday while under the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at CoreCivic’s Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego, California, according to [**Daylight San Diego**](https://www.daylightsandiego.org/ice-detainee-dies-at-otay-mesa-detention-center-in-san-diego/?ref=izzymirez.ghost.io).

CoreCivic confirmed the death to Daylight in an email, saying that a staff member found the person in detention unresponsive in one of the housing units just after 11:30 a.m. After staff attempted life-saving measures, and emergency medical services were called, the person was declared deceased at the facility. 

ICE has not released a press statement regarding the death as of Tuesday, 12:00 a.m. This death comes just a day after the [**death**](https://izzymirez.ghost.io/ghost/) of 46-year-old Luis Sandoval, who died Friday under ICE custody in Georgia. 

There have been three ICE detention deaths this month that we know of. Earlier this month, 56-year-old Emiliano Andrade-Covarrubias died while [**under**](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/19/us/ice-death-laredo-texas-medicine.html?ref=izzymirez.ghost.io) ICE custody in Texas.
